No, although you can IM people with Microsoft accounts (MSN, Hotmail, Live.com), you need to use Yahoo IM to signon.
If you are using a computer where YIM is not installed, you can used the web version at H77p://webmessenger.yahoo.com/ It’s not as good as the version of YIM you install, but it’s good for computers away from home.

Tonight is one of my virtual trips to Singapore. That means I’m cutting the evening short for a quick trip via VOIP. You know, I learned to type on a Remington Rand manual typewriter like one they have in the Smithsonian. I sit at my computer now, in my home in Houston, and wirelessly connect to our home network. I VPN into Shell’s network where I connect to Office Communicator and call our Singapore office. I then start a communicator IM with the person on the line and I take over their computer and "fix" the problem they’re having with a database on a computer in Amsterdam or Houston. All of this is done without the cost of a phone call or a trip to Singapore by plane to sit at their computer. I’ve gone from dinosaur to the future in my lifetime. I’ve lived history and SCI FI. I’m older’n dirt with a mind that’s 17. I love it! It doesn’t get any better than this!
